Last month I travelled to meet a company that I’ve been thinking about working with to manufacture our clothing. It was a very quick decision to fly out. I got the sample, liked it and figured that there’s only so many emails or WhatsApp messages we could exchange. I’m still on maternity leave and had help with the babies, so I thought, this is it. This is going to happen. Looking back, this is the most spontaneous thing I’ve done in a long time. A fortnight from deciding to book to getting on a plane and flying out.
I flew out to Morocco for three days and I’m so glad I did. I met my company contact face to face and we discussed everything from fabric options, to labels, to design changes that needed to be made. Aside from wanting to make decisions and learn as much as I could, I felt like going would show my dedication to this process.
I was reminded something that I know: real relationships will forever trump virtual ones and so much can be learned from even small conversations in passing. I was nervous about travelling alone and being taken seriously as I’m new to this process. Morocco was great though, everybody was very friendly and I felt safe. I was honest about my knowledge gaps and tried to be as thorough as possible while I was there.
The jury is still out as to whether this will be our manufacturer. I would like for it to work as so much has happened to get to this stage, but time (and spreadsheets) will be the final deciders.

This is the post I’ve known I needed to write for the longest time, but I’ve finally plucked up the courage to write. I’d like to introduce myself, the ‘Mummy’ in Mummy’s Muse. My name is Yewande, I’m 32 and I live in London. I’m married and I have two incredible daughters. Watching them – …
As I sat down to write this, I thought, is this going to be a really dry post? However, I cant’ let that stop me. I’m trying my best to be honest about what I’ve been up to, even if it doesn’t seem like the most exciting thing from the outside. I hope at least …
