I took a week off writing last week. I was busy setting up a few things and didn’t really have an update so I skipped a week. In my last post I spoke about developing psychological resilience. The context of the post was starting a business in general, but more specifically for me right now, being able to explore other manufacturers. I’ve taken my own advice and I’m officially ‘seeing other people.’
The hardest part of pivoting, is deciding to do so and taking the first step. Since I made the decision and took the first step it feels so good to be talking to manufacturers again. I’m still hoping my original manufacturers come through, but at least now I’ll have options. I have lots of different ways of finding manufacturers, one of which is Sewport. They have a good user interface and lots of interesting resources.
The first step to working out whether any of these new manufacturers will work out is to get their construction samples. These will be samples in plain fabric and not our bespoke prints. Once I see the quality of construction, if it’s a go, we’ll move into samples of clothing in our actual prints. I’m praying – really praying – I can get one of these manufacturers of the ground.

If you’ve been following this journey for some time now, you’ve probably realised colour – it’s power and it’s potential – is something I’m very passionate about. I love colour; there is definitely something about it that energises me. However the extent of my experience with colour is probably dressing myself, doing my make up …
This is one of those pieces of advice that seems so obvious but I constantly forget. Seek out experts. In an earlier post I wrote about no man being an island. When I wrote about this my emphasis was emotional support, this post is about practical skills. You should look for people who know things …
Vendor at trade show: Hi Me: Hi! Does your factory do digital printing? Vendor at trade show: Yes we do (friendly smile back). We only do sublimination printing. Me: Wonderful. (shoulders back, confident, ‘I mean business voice’) I’d like to print on 100% cotton at approximately x GSM. Can you help me with this? Vendor …
