I don’t like mess, I don’t like untidy spaces, to be honest I don’t deal well with aesthetic chaos. However, you would never think this looking at my house because with two children under three, the house stays neat for approximately 30 minutes each week. These are the first 30 minutes after the (wonderful, sanity restoring) ladies who help us clean leave. It’s one of those things I’ve had to let go. I’ve had to learn where to focus my energy and my time and with all that’s going on, constantly picking up after Baby and Baby Baby isn’t the best use of my resources.

Building Mummy’s Muse, I’ve also had to become comfortable with ‘Messy Play.’ I’ve had to learn to move forward despite things not being perfect and make decisions about where to invest my time and energy. It’s interesting because in the world of child development, making a mess with different textures, colours, sights, sounds and even tastes (*shudder*), is commonly accepted to be positive for development. I can accept this kind of ‘play’ in the design process, but having a website that has awkward kinks in it or a product that is only 80% perfect in my eyes is a lot harder.

However as the ‘age old’ Instagram quote goes: Done Is Better Than Perfect. I need to remember this and keep things moving or face being stuck in a sort of paralysis of perfection seeking.
