Values; Principles; Guidelines; Our Compass – however you choose to describe the concept, it can’t be ignored. Our values are so important to Mummy’s Muse because I feel like there’s a very clear and strong personality I’m trying to create with this brand. These values act as a bit of a checklist for everything we want to do. Not just what we make, how we speak, what we design, the causes we support.
I have a friend that I’ve known for some time who is a brilliant brand strategist. She has pushed me to really make some decisions. I’ve found it’s so easy when creating something to try and be too many things, but you have to work out what’s at the core of your being.
It’s like having a friend and being so sure about who that friend is to you. I have friends that are highly dependable – I also have friends who are not! (*laughs at the thought of friends reading this and checking themselves*). However if they aren’t dependable, but we’re friends, there’s a high chance I love them for something else. Perhaps they are straight talkers, perhaps they are extremely generous, perhaps they are great teachers. Regardless, what makes us friends, so much of the time is that I know where I stand with them. That’s because they know who they are, they have values that don’t shift. That’s what I want to build with Mummy’s Muse, a friend whom you are sure of their character.
Introducing: The Values Series
I’m going to start a series of blog posts talking through Mummy’s Muse’s values, where they came from and why they are important. I’m also going to talk a bit about my personal journey as many of these brand’s values are the same as my own. I’d also like to write about the fact that over the past five/six years or so I’ve gone through a journey of almost losing myself a little bit and the freedom I’ve found in re-discovering who I am and the values that make me, me. This journey has really given me the strong desire to want to build Mummy’s Muse and share this personality with the world.
These values I’ll need to come back to again and again, to ensure we’re not losing our way. To ensure we don’t become something we’re not trying to be. To ensure we stay true to you, our friend.
Ok, so what are the values?
Mummy’s Muse has four core values. They are (in no particular order):
Uninhibited
Rooted
Playful
Considered
As I mentioned above these are a guide to how we will behave. I will be asking myself, ‘Is this playful…are we having a good time here, is it bringing joy?’ ‘Is it considered, why are we making the decision we’re making?’ ‘Is this Uninhibited…am I holding back?’ Remember this blog post? Is this truly Rooted in the blend of two cultures? I’m a believer that in life we evolve, things change. I wonder if in 10 years time these will still be our values? I really do hope they are, but I’m excited to see where life’s road will take this brand.
I officially formed Mummy’s Muse as a company in March 2017. This means that I’ve technically been at this thing for just over two years. Sometimes this makes me feel so …. frustrated/upset/resigned/bewildered…I could go on. How has it taken me two years and I feel like I have so little to actually show for …
Happy 2020. It’s a coincidence that my first post of the year is about exercise. However, I promise I’m not on any crazy diets/dry January/attempting Veganuary. I actually just ate a slice of red velvet cake in bed as it was my friend’s 30th birthday last night. Saying that I went to the gym at …
I could write a whole series about doing ‘x’ consistently is hard – especially when it comes to this business. Writing is definitely one of the top 3. I write because I want to document this process and honestly so I can look back one day and remember how I felt as I was starting. …
