I’m embarrassingly late to the game on this one. In the last few weeks, I’ve truly started to learn the value of ‘YouTube University’. What do I mean when I say YouTube University? I mean the fact that you can learn almost anything…on YouTube.
Using Downtime to Upskill
I’ve written a lot about this journey I’m on and and how the times I’ve been waiting for months have been particularly hard. Looking back, during those times, I just didn’t know what else I could be doing. As time has gone on, I think I’ve realised I didn’t know what I didn’t know. There is so much I could have been learning. I could have been gathering general knowledge about fabrics, prints, colours. Outside of this I could have been learning more about the manufacturing and fabric dyeing process, the process of working with suppliers, how goods are shipped into the country – there is so much to learn. There is so much I could have been learning. The internet as a whole is a great place to learn, YouTube is the home of learning.
In a bid to be able to monetise their content, people give away SO much information on YouTube. All for the cost of watching (or skipping) a few ads :-). Now when someone tries to sell me any service to improve my knowledge in an area, my first question is…’Hmmm, can I learn this on YouTube for free?’
Fast Learner
I wish, wish, wish I’d spent those agonising months where I was waiting, learning. However, I’m a big believer in things happening for a reason. Now I’ve had this epiphany, I’m devouring as much information as I can. You know what’s beautiful about it? It’s another way I’m finding Joy in the Journey. Something I’ve always known about myself is that I love learning. I loved school. I’m extremely curious – a fact that has kept me in my industry this long and makes me really good at my job. Knowing that I can indulge in all this learning for free and it will help me in my quest to get where I’m going – it’s a wonderful feeling.
If you’ve ever worked in an office with an active fridge, you’ve likely seen a note with the phrase on the image above. The grown up version of declaring ownership of a brand name and identity is to protect them with a trademark. Please be clear that licking your brand name or logo won’t mean …
Oh Friday night, how you’ve changed! I’m in bed with a cup of redbush tea as I write this. Elsa is singing ‘Let it Go’ on repeat faintly from the babies’ room and I’m a little on edge because in the back of my mind one of them may wake up at any moment, demanding …
Hooray! Our trademark certificate came through. Back in December I wrote about how it had taken a while for me to get round to filing for a trademark at with the Intellectual Property Office (IPO). In early March, the trademark was approved, and I received the paper work a few weeks ago. I was nervous …
