Well hello. I took a bit of an unplanned break from writing this blog and posting on social media this summer. I had to get over the strange feelings of guilt associated with taking a break. Let’s face it, I doubt anyone cared I took a break…and yet it’s so bizarre that these feelings of guilt surfaced. I think it’s just a symptom of the pervasiveness of social media presenteeism of our age. You sort of feel everyone is ‘on’ all of the time. I didn’t write or post because I just didn’t feel like it. I’ve had to come to a place where I’ve accepted that that’s my prerogative.
So while I didn’t write on the blog and I didn’t post on social media, I steadily continued to work. Week in and week out. So what’s happened? And importantly….when is this launch??
Lift off in 5, 4, 3…
I hope to launch our first set of products – aprons for toddlers and pre-school aged children – in the next few weeks. It’s really interesting to me that there are some products I’ve been working on the best part of 2 years and still aren’t ready to be sold. While there are products that I imagined within the last 6 months are likely to be ready first. This all comes down to the complexity of the design and also the fabric on which the print is being printed. It also shows me how much I’ve learned. Now, when I get an idea for a new product, I now know all the steps I need to take. I really want to speed up the steps I take with my manufacturers. This is what takes the most time – waiting in between stages.
Something has become really apparent to me in the last year…I get why no one has done this before. It’s been really hard for me as an independent person who is new to the world of manufacturing, print and design to get this off the ground. Saying this, there’s nothing I love more than a challenge and I’m getting closer with each passing week.
I’ve included some ‘behind the scenes’ footage of my protoypes being made.
Stay tuned for news on the launch. And if you’re still reading, thank you. It means a lot.
Last month I travelled to meet a company that I’ve been thinking about working with to manufacture our clothing. It was a very quick decision to fly out. I got the sample, liked it and figured that there’s only so many emails or WhatsApp messages we could exchange. I’m still on maternity leave and had …
Today was an exciting day. After months of playing around in Illustrator, I decided on the colour combinations of my prints that I like the most and sent them to a local printer to digitally print on a number of fabrics. I wanted to see what the prints I designed look like in real life …
Let me just lay it out simply at the start – bootstrap mentality can be absolutely exhausting. “This would be sooo much easier if I were FILTHY rich.” This phrase has run through my mind on more than one occasion – I’m not going to lie. A few weeks ago, I wrote about the challenge …
