I took a week off writing last week. I was busy setting up a few things and didn’t really have an update so I skipped a week. In my last post I spoke about developing psychological resilience. The context of the post was starting a business in general, but more specifically for me right now, being able to explore other manufacturers. I’ve taken my own advice and I’m officially ‘seeing other people.’
The hardest part of pivoting, is deciding to do so and taking the first step. Since I made the decision and took the first step it feels so good to be talking to manufacturers again. I’m still hoping my original manufacturers come through, but at least now I’ll have options. I have lots of different ways of finding manufacturers, one of which is Sewport. They have a good user interface and lots of interesting resources.
The first step to working out whether any of these new manufacturers will work out is to get their construction samples. These will be samples in plain fabric and not our bespoke prints. Once I see the quality of construction, if it’s a go, we’ll move into samples of clothing in our actual prints. I’m praying – really praying – I can get one of these manufacturers of the ground.

Just under a week ago I received new construction samples. This was a significant milestone for me because the last time I received samples was back in October 2019. Can we just pause…October 2019, about a year and a half ago! When I first looked into starting Mummy’s Muse, I planned on producing with a …
I tried for a snappy title, I really did. Regulation isn’t the sexiest of topics, but my, it’s important. It’s important to me anyway. And it’s really challenging to get your head around. I need to start this post by saying I’m no expert. I definitely haven’t got it all worked out yet. However, after …
Hooray. I have samples. It’s been quite the process to get these made. I was initially in talks with a manufacturer I was interested in working with. We’d actually got quite far down the line talking, but we couldn’t go any further as I felt the MOQs (minimum order quantities) were just too high. I’m …
